Chinese Calligraphy Ma Ma Lacquered Paper Earrings with Silver Simple and strong, these lacquered eardrops have the chinese pinyin, or writing, that says "Ma Ma" - we'd say, "Mom". The ear drops are offwhite with black calligraphy and border and measure approx. 3/4" long in a marquis shape. The drops dangle from handwired small rounds of black onyx, and the total earring length is just over 1¼" below sterling silver earwires. These lacquered, handmade earrings are my original design. The drops are made with several layers of cold-pressed paper, with multiple layers of lacquer added for both gloss and durability. The lacquering process is time-consuming but the end result is extremely strong - I've been wearing my favorite pairs for over ten years and they look great.
