Ashanti Maiden Necklace This necklace is a statement piece - it totally won't be your cup of tea - or you'll love it! The pendant is an original design, adapted from the 'passport masks' of African history. The maiden is decorated with painted marks of tears - and power. Her headpiece is representative of ebony carvings, her ceremonial earrings are black jasper teardrops, hand-wired with sterling silver. The necklace is formed with a medley of neutrals, all of which could originally have been mined in her African soil...hematite, with charcoal-black shine, and black obsidian (volcanic glass). Two brass rondelles frame the pendant, representing the mix of metals that could be found in trading history. The mask centerpiece is bracketed with black mother of pearl shards, grey-black on one side and lighter on the reverse. The mask pendant is reversible of course. As shown, the necklace measures approx. 17", with a handmade extension chain adding 2" for versatility. The necklace can be made from 15" to 18" (same price). The clasp is sterling silver.
