Save Gas - Shop Online

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:59 pm

Of course I have a vested interest in this notion, because I have an online jewelry store. But I really do think it’s a good idea. Think about it. Say you make five purchases this month (outside of absolute necessities, food, etc.) If you made even one of those purchases online, you’d save yourself the trouble of finding the store (or comparing in three or five stores), parking, maybe paying for parking! - running around in the heat - maybe having to hire a babysitter, or take the kids with you which is lovely cause you’ve got your kids with you - but also makes everything more logistically complicated.

Yes, then you can see, smell, touch what you’re buying and in many cases that makes the ultimate difference. But sometimes…not so much. If you’re buying cream cotton sheets in 280 thread count - and they’re clearly marked as such - doesn’t it make sense to save yourself the wear and tear and buy them online with some nice shop that’s also got them on special?

Those little exceptions - where you can buy online, maybe where you know the vendor or the store was personally recommended - can make the whole purchase easier on you. And at the same time, you’re saving on gas money. You’re emitting less pollutants. You’re doing that tiny bit to help create a greener America.

See, there’s one easy example. I bet you can think of three or ten more. Those little steps add up.

Savings. Convenience. Greener America. :-)

PS Excuse me. I don’t mean to be parochial. Greener planet.

Eco Friendly and Good Looking Too!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:40 pm

Take a look at this tee. I love the shape, the vivid color, the tiny sleeve, the fact that it looks girly but it’s simple.

fine jersey 100% bamboo tee

This is a quote: “Bamboo fiber is softer than the softest cotton, has a natural sheen to the surface and feels similar to silk or cashmere…Unlike other anti-microbial fabrics, which require a chemical treatment, bamboo fiber clothing is naturally anti-microbial and requires no harmful chemicals. It contains an agent, “bamboo kun”, that prevents bacteria from cultivating on it. Bamboo apparel is comfortable, thermal regulating and will keep you cooler, drier, warmer and odor free.”

It sounds yummy. It looks yummy. And it’s only $24 at www.bamboosa.com. I haven’t bought any yet, but I’m tempted. A sustainable resource - that looks good - that you can wash - that’s affordable. What’s not to love?!

Coin Pearls

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:10 am

I have to say it - I love coin pearls. I’d never seen them till a few years ago (so I’m slow sometimes!) They add class to every piece of jewelry they’re embellishing. They don’t have to be perfect - those are wonderful of course but, well, very costly. But even coin pearls that are just “good” - are wonderful.

One of my best sellers is a simple pair of “classic coin pearl earrings” that are just so fabulous for business days or Saturday night…

classic coin pearl earrings …and what I really love is how great they are with a tank top and cotton skirt (or cutoffs - why not?) in this hot weather!

Honda 250 Rebel

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:30 pm

So, now we’ve got a motorcycle.

It’ll be great for DH going to work. Great for gas mileage (and if you don’t think the price of gas is going to go way up, you’re more optimistic than me…) And it was a great deal. Okay, a good deal. And it’ll be fun. Honest. He promised.

(I’d upload a piccie, but all the ones I’m finding are red. This is Black. Of course.)

It’s a Rebel. :-) And you know, much though I didn’t want to admit it, it’s kinda cool. This is not a Hawg; this is a have fun run around good time motorcycle.

Independence Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:18 am

Happy day to our nation! Among all the picnics and fireworks (if the rain lets up here) I’m going to take a few minutes at least to think about the freedoms our nation stands for - freedoms that we can’t afford to take for granted - or abuse. And to celebrate the smarts that a bunch of men (and women) demonstrated a couple hundred years ago. Thank you!

This is also set to be the launch day for Shuttle Flight STS-121. space shuttle on pad for STS121 Weather permitting, they’re set to go up this afternoon. Please go safely, or don’t go And godspeed.

A Prairie Home Companion

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:46 pm

Still from A Prairie Home CompanionI know this movie may be an acquired taste. It’s slow, with a tenuous plot, and I use the term lightly. So, not for everyone, and that’s fine - variety is the spice, or “infinite diversity in infinite combinations”, as the old saying goes (if you remember where that saying’s from, you’ll get it.)

I loved the film. I loved the way it invested in the characters, the way it shared them with us as people and not just cardboard. LQ Jones was a poem. Woody Harrelson and John Reilly were fabulous. I thought Kevin Klein was wonderful, which he usually is - even if his character was a bit out of the main here. Lindsay Lohan was terrific. I hadn’t really paid her much attention before - teen wonder and all that - but the girl can act, and even sing. No, I mean it.

And then we get to Meryl Streep. Of course she was flawless, and human, and real, and wonderful. But even the fabulous Merle couldn’t hold my attention and my heart the way Lily Tomlin did. She shared so much with us - so much completely unwritten (and unspoken) - she showed us this person with dreams, angers, regrets, humor……. oh she was. Well. Perfect.

If you haven’t seen this movie - and you want a shoot-em-up -  don’t go. But if you like humans, if you care about people when they’re not twenty and perfect (or even if they are), if you enjoy sharing a look at and a peek into those characters - you should go see this. I mean, right away. Dinner can wait.

Rare Bird Finds

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:19 pm

Check out Rare Bird Finds Rare Bird Finds, a blog that features all kinds of good stuff that you don’t find just everywhere. Things like… an extremely cool diaper bag. An invisible bookshelf (no, really). An owl backpack!

I’m a little biased, because in their in their June 6 blog they featured my geisha earrings Geisha Earrings. But aside from being tickled, that meant I went there to check it out - and fell into extreme like. The blog is great!

Mouthwatering Work

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:28 pm

I stumbled across a site recently that had work so beautiful, I just have to mention it here:

Colleen Quen Couture

This is couture work. Not something I will probably ever wear. I live in tees and jeans, or comfy shorts and exercisie tops when I’m feeling ambitious (or fooling myself that I *will* feel like working out). I was looking for….something else entirely, not even sure what, and by accident landed on Quen’s site. I used to sew all my own clothes. Don’t, mostly, anymore. And I’m no expert. But I know enough to recognize the absolutely magnificent skill in Quen’s work - and the imagination. And the fabrics! Gorgeous. Just for a treat, go take a look. Even if Couture’s a little out of your reach, too.

Sunday and I don’t feel like working

Filed under: Uncategorized — jennifer @ 11:16 am

So I’m playing. Okay, doing blog stuff and site stuff, we’re not talking heavy duty here.

Check out Boodatude . Blog. Opinions. Fun. Argumentative sometimes. Convincing sometimes. Might even make you think but that doesn’t have to be bad, you know?

Another note entirely. I’m thinking of adding pendants to my line. Could be worn on a chain, a leather, a silkie. Or ask for a little spring ring thingie (those small round clasps with a pokey bit you pull back to attach to stuff) and put it on a charm bracelet. Kind of fun. An example:Pink Opal Pendant
